Raita (yoghurt with condiments)


  • 200gms yoghurt
  • 1 large cucumber chopped deseeded
  • 1 onion chopped
  • Masala ( toss in very hot pan 1 tbs cumin,1 tbs coriander,2 red dry chillies and ground it)
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tbs mustard oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 1/2 tbs sugar


  • Mix in bowl yoghurt with some water to get cream like consistency
  • Mix the salt,sugar,vegetables in it
  • Add the masala
  • In a pan heat oil mustard oil
  • Splatter the mustard seeds and curry leaves and chilli
  • Pour this over the yoghurt mixture
  • Sprinkle some more masala
  • Cool it in refrigerator 

Serve it cool with papad
