Chilli chicken (with homemade green chilli sauce)

Chilli chicken is a very popular Indo-Chinese dish. Whenever we visit a Chinese restaurant, for how long we turn the pages of the menu card or not we definitely order the very “chilli chicken and fried rice”

We’ve made this chilli chicken with a home made green chilli sauce.Here is the link below👇

This recipe has four steps:

  1. Making the marinade
  2. Making the sauce
  3. Frying the chicken
  4. Mixing the chicken with the sauce

Type: starter, side dish

Cooking time : 30-35minutes

Serve: 6


  • 2lb boneless, skinless chicken
  • (2+2) tbs green chilli chicken
  • (2+2) tbs tomato sauce
  • (2+4) tbs soya sauce
  • 2 tbs vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 egg white
  • (1+1) tbs crushed Black pepper
  • 1 tbs ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbs chopped ginger
  • 1 tbs chilli flakes
  • 1 medium sized onion diced
  • 1 medium sized capsicum diced
  • 2 green chilli slit and cut into pieces
  • Green onion chopped
  • Spring onion chopped
  • 2 tbs corn flour
  • 4 tbs all purpose flour
  • 75 ml water
  • 1 tbs sugar

For the slurry,:

  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • 1 tbs water


For the marinade, :

  • In a bowl add 2 tbs soya sauce, 2 tbs green chilli sauce, 2 tbs tomato sauce, 1 egg white, ginger garlic paste,1 tbs black pepper
  • Add the Cornflour and flour
  • Whisk properly
  • Pour 3/4 over the diced chicken and save the remaining marinade for later use.
  • Marinate the chicken for at least 4 hours or overnight for better result

For the sauce:

  • In a bowl add 75 ml water
  • Add remaining soya sauce
  • Add 2 tbs tomato sauce
  • Add 2 tbs green chilli sauce
  • 1 tbs black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbs vinegar
  • Whisk and keep aside
  • Make the slurry and keep in hands reach

Making the sauce:

  • Add some oil to the pan
  • Add chilli flakes and the green onions
  • Now add the chopped ginger
  • Add the diced onions and capsicum
  • Add the sugar to caramelise the onions
  • Fry at a very temperature it keeps the veggies crisp
  • Now add the sauce mixture you have made
  • Bring it to boil
  • Now add the slurry and add it to thicken it
  • Keep it aside

Frying the chicken:

  • Take out the marinated chicken
  • Add the remaining remaining marinade
  • Dust some more all purpose flour over it
  • Now add oil for deep frying
  • Add the chickens and fry still crispy

Final step-the assembly

  • Now add the fried chicken to the sauce
  • Coat the chicken with sauce
  • And now serve it on a plate with chopped spring onions

Serve it hot with fried rice or tortillas or burritos
