Aloo matar(potato curry with peas) – quick ‘n’ easy

Aloo matar is a Punjabi dish from Indian Subcontinent.It is very tasty preparation with a tomato base gravy with tempered cumin.

This dish can be easily cooked at home with very regular ingredients with a very less effort.


  • 3 medium sized potato diced into cubes
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 tbs ginger paste
  • 1 tsp while cumin
  • 1 medium sized tomato chopped
  • 2 tbs spice mix( 1 tbs cumin powder, 1 tbs coriander powder, 1 tsp turmeric powder soaked in water)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • Fresh coriander to garnish
  • 1 small onion chopped


  • In a pan add 2 tbs oil
  • Add the whole cumin
  • Now add the chopped onion
  • Add the chopped ginger and tomato
  • Now add the spice mix
  • Add the diced potatoes
  • Mix them well
  • Add 1 cup warm water
  • Now add the green peas
  • Add the green chillies
  • Bring it boil and cook for 10-15 minutes in a simmering flame
  • Add some chopped coriander for garnishing and flavor
