Sada aloor chochori/white potato curry||Weekend breakfast

After having toast and eggs,cereals and milk,yoghurt from Monday to Friday our Bengali hearts crave for some comfort food. What could be best other than Luchi/deep fried bread and sada aloor chochori or torkari/ white potato curry.

Coming to describe this curry- we need plain potatoes cut and peeled and tempered with cumin seeds and mustard seeds and then we go for a seer and savoury curry with a hint of green chillies.

Enough of this describing,let’s move on to the step of preparating sada aloor chochori/torkari๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Type-Side dish

Preparation time- 10-12 minutes

Cooking time- 15-20 minutes


  • 200 gm diced potatoes
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbs tomato ketchup
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3, whole red chillies
  • 1 cup hot water


  • In a deep dish pan add 2 tbs oil
  • Temper the oil with 1 tsp cumin seeds and 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • Add 1 sprig of curry leaves and fry until aroma comes
  • Add the diced potatoes,just keep on stirring so that you are cooking the potatoes but not frying them
  • Remember we need well cooked potatoes but not potatoes who have a fried texture
  • Add tomato and mix
  • Add salt to taste and it will also help in softening the tomatoes
  • Now you can add 1 cup hot water and 2 tsp of sugar and mix
  • Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes on a medium flame
  • Add 1 tbs tomato ketchup and mix and again cook for 8-10 minutes on a medium flame
  • At this point you add the peasand it’s done (my peas are blanched)
