Matar Paneer ki sabzi/peas and cottage cheese curry|| No onion no garlic||easy and tasty

Matar Paneer/Peas and Cottage cheese curry also known as mutter paneer and its 100% vegetarian North Indian dish consisting of peas and paneer/cottage cheese and spiced with garam masala. It is often served with rice and an Indian type of bread.

It is a very tasty dish and is mostly cooked in many houses when it’s a 100% vegetarian day. It is cooked in festivals and occasions.

This is simple and easy recipe for matar panner/peas and cottage cheese curry is not exactly the restaurant style buta simple homemade dish. This kinds make for a homely comforting meal.

Type- Curry,Veg curry

Preparation time- 8-10 minutes

Cooking time- 25-30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Paneer/Cottage cheese cut into cubes
  • If you want you can use Tofu also
  • 2 potatoes cut into cubes (optional)
  • 1 large tomato diced
  • Salt to taste
  • For tempering- 1 tsp cumin powder,2 bay leaves,2, whole red chillies
  • 1 tbs ginger paste
  • Spice Mix- 1 tsp cumin powder,1 tsp coriander powder,1 tbs garam masala powder,1 tsp turmeric powder,1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 cup blanched peas
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 cup water for the gravy ( depends on how much thick or thin you want)

Procedure:

  • In a pan add 3 tbs oil
  • Add the cubed potatoes
  • Add some salt and turmeric powder and fry until light brown
  • Keep aside
  • Adding potatoes is completely optional
  • In that pan add the cubed paneer/cottage cheese and slightly fry
  • And keep aside
  • In that pan add 1 tbs oil ( if needed)
  • When the oil is mild hot add the tempering
  • Cook until aroma comes
  • Add 1 tbs ginger paste
  • Add the diced tomatoes and add salt to taste and cook until soft
  • Now add the spice mix
  • Mix and add 2-3 tbs water,so that the spice doesn’t get burnt
  • Add the fried potatoes and mix
  • If you are not adding potatoes then at this point add 1 cup (or as you need) water for the gravy
  • Now add water for the required gravy
  • Mix and cover and cook for 10 minutes
  • And add the fried Paneer/Cottage cheese
  • Add the green peas
  • Again cover and cook for 10 minutes on a medium low flame
  • And its done
