Red chutney and green chutney is a very appetising with Amy kind of snacks. Specially red chutney goes with Dosa,Vada pav and green chutney goes best with kebabs and pakodas.
I generally make it before hand,and keep it in the refrigerator,it remains fresh for months in a sterilized glass jar. Both of these chutneys are raw,and just needs 5-10 minutes.
The red chilli chutney is mainly made out of fresh dried whole red chillies,you can make it less hot or more hot by adding or subtracting the chillies.
The green chutney is made of fresh coriander leaves/cilantro with some tangy tomatoes and balancing yoghurt.

Preparation time- 5-8 minutes
Cooking time- 5-8 minutes
Ingredients for red chutney:
- 8-10 whole dried red chillies
- 1 tbs chana dal (Split peas)
- 1.5 tsp chopped garlic
- Juice of half a lime or lemon
- 2 tbs vinegar+2 tbs water (mix and keep aside)
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for green chutney:
-
- 1 bunch of fresh coriander or cilantro leaves
- 1 small tomato chopped (if you have large tomato then half of it)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbs yoghurt
- Juice of half a lime or lemon
- 3-4 green chillies
- 1 tbs or 2 tsp chopped garlic
- 2 tbs water
- 1 tsp amchur (mango powder)
- 1/2 tsp black salt
Procedure for the red chutney:
- In a blending jar add,8-10 whole red chillies,1 tbs chana daal/split peas
- Add 1 tbs chopped garlic,salt to taste and 2 tbs water+2 tbs vinegar
- Add juice of half a lime or lemon
- Blend everything together until smooth
- Take it out and keep in a sterilized glass jar for months
Procedure for the green chutney:
- In blending jar add 1 small tomato,3-3 green chillies (adjust heat accordingly)
- Add 1 tbs chopped garlic,salt to taste
- 1 bunch of chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
- 2 tbs yoghurt
- Juice of half a lime or lemon
- 2 tbs water
- Blend everything until smooth
- Add 1 tsp amchur/mango powder
- Add 1/2 tsp black salt and mix
