Quick and easy 5 minutes microwave Dhokla

Dhokla is a vegetarian dish which is popular in Gujarat, India. You can have it in breakfast, as a main course, snack or side dish.

It is simply a savoury gramflour cake,made with simple ingredients always present at home.

It is effortless and will just take 5 minutes of your time.

It is very popular in my home, specially when my family demands some fancy breakfast or snacks 😊.

Let’s start making Dhokla/Streamed gramflour cake….in my style 👇👇👇

Type- Breakfast,snacks

Preparation time- 8-10 minutes

Cooking time- 5 minutes microwave +3-4 minutes the tempering


  • 1 cup gram flour
  • 2 tbs rawa/sooji/samolina
  • 1 whole lime juice
  • 1 tbs ginger paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbs of any cooking oil
  • 1 fruit salt pouch

For tempering:

  • 1tbs mustard seeds
  • 4-5 whole green chillies
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/4 tbs salt
  • 1 tbs lime juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1.5 tbs white oil (any cooking oil)
  • Dessicated coconut for garnishing


  • Take a bowl add all the ingredients except the fruit salt
  • Beat the batter well (please don’t skip any step)
  • Rest the batter for 1 hour
  • Now add the fruit salt
  • Pour it in a baking dish
  • After adding the fruit salt you have to immediately put the mixture in the microwave
  • Set timer for 5 minutes at high power
  • Allow this spongy Dhokla/the savoury gram flour cake to cool down
  • Now cut it into pieces but allow it to remain in the baking dish
  • In between we will prepare the tempering
  • In a bowl add 1.5 tbs oil
  • Add 2-3 slit green chillies,5-6 curry leaves and 1 tsp mustard seeds, microwave it for 2 minutes
  • Add 1 tbs sugar and mix
  • Microwave it for another 1 minute and you will hear it splatters
  • Pour it over the Dhokla/steamed savoury gramflour cake
  • Garnish with some dessicated coconut and its done
